HOW TO CALCULATE APPROXIMATE BANDWIDTH Run a baseline test to measure the amount of traffic a single virtual user sends and receives from the server. Divide the total amount of data sent and received by the duration of the baseline test. Multiply the single user required bandwidth by the total number of users that will run the test. In order to compare the required bandwidth to the actual bandwidth, KBps have to be converted to Mbps, see example below - a 1hr loadtest with a single user type: In the baseline test the user took 360 seconds to send 40 KB of data to the server and receive 600 Kbytes from the server. We want to test running 500 of these users. Required Bandwidth = 500 users x (40 Bytes + 600 Bytes) ---------------------- 360 sec/user Bandwidth = 888.9 KBps Bandwidth in Mbps = 888.9 * 8 /1024 = 6.94 Mbps The above is only the approximated bandwidth, the actual bandwidth will need to be significantly higher to accommodate spikes in usage which may occur during a load test.
