After Windows XP ServicePack 2 is installed, the Windows Firewall is enabled by default. This will cause certain ports, which SQL Server requires for communication, to be blocked. Windows Firewall can be disabled by following the steps below. START | CONTROL PANEL | Network Connections | Active Network Connection Right click and select PROPERTIES. Select the ADVANCED tab.
