Summary Article Number 26446 Environment Product: Orbix Version: 6.3.4 OS: Windows 2008 Question/Problem Description An application is using Orbix 6.3.4 on Windows 2008 sp2 64 bit.and noticed that a 32 bit node daemon can run simultaneously 64 and 32 bit orbix services (and vice versa) 1. is this a supported configuration? 2. what would be the advantage in running a 64 bit node daemon on windows? 3. In general terms, is it recommend to use a 64 bit node daemon in a generally 64 bit environment or rather stick with a 32 bit node daemon always or does it not really matter?   Clarifying Information Error Message Defect/Enhancement Number Cause Resolution From a system point of view, 32 bit applications, such us Orbix, can be executed on 64 bit platform operating system. 64 bit processes provide additional memory addressing space, and can go beyond the 4G memory addressing limits that 32 bit programs have. Micro Focus recommendation is to use the 64 bit version of Orbix services, and build 64 bit programs if the operating system is 64 bit. This is only good from the process addressing space point of view. From the functionality view, both Orbix 32 and 64 bit versions are identical.
